Amazon MGM Studios has released the first Verity teaser trailer, previewing the upcoming psychological thriller based on Colleen Hoover’s novel, starring Anne Hathaway, Dakota Johnson, and Josh Hartnett. Verity is set to release in theaters on October 2, 2026.
The movie “follows renowned author Verity Crawford (Anne Hathaway) and Lowen Ashleigh (Dakota Johnson), a struggling writer who relocates to the remote Crawford estate to ghostwrite for Verity. After Lowen uncovers what appears to be Verity’s chilling autobiographical notes, she wrestles with the disturbing and twisted confessions about Verity’s husband Jeremy (Josh Hartnett), and finds it hard to separate fiction from reality, manipulation from attraction, and opportunity from obsession,” reads the film’s official synopsis.

What happens in the Verity teaser trailer?
The teaser trailer for the movie doesn’t show a whole lot in the way of plot, but does set the tone for the mysterious and twisted movie. The trailer highlights Dakota Johnson’s Lowen Ashleigh, a writer tasked with taking care of bestselling author Verity Crawford. While at Crawford and her husband’s Jeremy’s home, she engages in a relationship with him, and seems to uncover some mysterious things about the author along the way.
Verity is directed by Michael Showalter, from a script written by Nick Antosca. The movie is based on Colleen Hoover’s 2018 novel of the same name, the latest in a long line of movie adaptations of Hoover’s work. The movie features a star-studded cast and is led by Hathaway, Johnson, and Hartnett, but also features Ismael Cruz Córdova, Brady Wagner, Irina Dvorovenko, K.K. Moggie, Michael Abbott Jr., and Alex Cooper.
Nick Antosca, Alex Hedlund, Stacey Sher, Michael Showalter, Jordana Mollick, Anne Hathaway, and Colleen Hoover are all attached to the project as producers. Kerry Orent, Dakota Johnson, and Lauren Levine act as executive producers on the film.
