A gore-soaked franchise sequel that drew a mixed reaction in cinemas has claimed the top spot on a major streaming service. The film is now beating a crowded field of horror and superhero titles.
Evil Dead Burn is topping HBO Max’s streaming charts
Evil Dead Burn reached No. 1 on the HBO Max Top 10 in the United States on October 6, 2026, according to FlixPatrol data.
The film moved ahead of Backrooms, Corpse Bride, Supergirl, and The Shining, among others. The climb comes just days after the movie’s home debut. Warner Bros. confirmed that the film would begin streaming exclusively on HBO Max on October 2. It then aired on HBO’s linear channel on October 3 at 8 p.m. ET, following showings of 2013’s Evil Dead and Evil Dead Rise.
The streaming surge follows a respectable theatrical run. The film opened in July with an estimated $13.7 million domestically, placing fourth for the weekend. It has since grossed roughly $72.3 million worldwide against a reported $20 million production budget. That return explains why the headline number carries weight. The movie earned more than three times its cost before it ever reached a streaming service.
Sébastien Vaniček directed the movie from a script he wrote with Florent Bernard. Rob Tapert and Sam Raimi produced it. Souheila Yacoub, Tandi Wright, and Hunter Doohan lead the cast. The story follows a woman who seeks comfort with her in-laws at their remote family home after her husband dies. One by one, the relatives become Deadites, and the gathering turns into what the studio describes as a family reunion from hell.
Warner Bros. is already looking ahead. Evil Dead Wrath, directed by Francis Galluppi, is set to reach theaters on April 7, 2028. For now, the film’s streaming performance suggests that viewers who skipped the theatrical run, or want a second look, are turning to HBO Max. Whether it holds the No. 1 position will depend on how it fares against competing titles over the coming days.
