Belgian pop artist Kim Kay is stepping into a decidedly more provocative chapter with the release of her brand-new single, “ANIMAL,” available now on streaming platforms worldwide.
Bold, sensual and deliberately different from her previous work, “ANIMAL” finds Kim Kay embracing desire without apology. The singer says the inspiration came from a very personal place: her own late-night fantasies.
“It’s here… my new single ANIMAL is out now,” Kim shared with fans. “Again, something quite different than anything I’ve done before. I wrote this song inspired by my late-night sexual fantasies.”
It’s a revealing statement, but one that perfectly captures the spirit of the record. “ANIMAL” isn’t interested in playing it safe. Instead, Kim leans into attraction, fantasy and the instinctive side of human desire, delivering a track designed to feel uninhibited, seductive and a little dangerous.
A Different Side of Kim Kay
For longtime listeners, the release represents another evolution for an artist whose career has never followed a predictable path.
Kim Kay first exploded onto the European pop scene with “Lilali,” the infectious hit that made her a recognizable name in Belgium and France. Her success led to an EMI recording career, television appearances, live performances and acting, establishing her as one of Belgium’s memorable pop personalities.
But Kim Kay’s story would eventually become about much more than chart success.
After being diagnosed with cervical cancer in 2004, she endured years of surgeries and serious medical complications that dramatically changed her life and career. Yet music remained part of her identity. Even when conventional recording became difficult, Kim found ways to continue creating, eventually making an emotional return to music.
That history makes the confidence behind “ANIMAL” particularly striking. This isn’t an artist attempting to recreate what she did decades ago. Kim Kay is making music from where she is now — and allowing herself the freedom to be playful, sexy, personal and unexpected.
The cover artwork makes that intention unmistakable. A dramatic close-up of Kim emerges from darkness beneath the single word ANIMAL, creating an image that feels intimate, mysterious and cinematic.
Desire Without Apology
There’s also something refreshing about an established female artist being this open about sexuality and fantasy.
Popular culture has often celebrated male performers for exploring desire well into their careers while placing very different expectations on women. Kim Kay doesn’t appear particularly interested in those expectations.
With “ANIMAL,” she owns the fantasy herself.
The result is a release that feels less like an attempt to shock and more like an expression of freedom — the freedom to write about desire, to experiment musically and to reveal another side of herself to an audience that has followed her through several very different chapters.
“I hope you like it as much as I did writing and singing it,” Kim told her fans.
That sense of enjoyment may ultimately be the most important ingredient in “ANIMAL.” After everything Kim Kay has experienced, she’s still creating, still experimenting and still capable of surprising her audience.
And this time, she’s letting the ANIMAL out.
Kim Kay’s “ANIMAL” is available now on Spotify and other major streaming platforms.
