Craig Melvin and Carson Daly‘s latest Today breaks have officially come to an end.
The two hosts were back in Studio 1A on Thursday, July 30, after spending more than a week away from the show. “Welcome back to Today. So glad you’re starting your Thursday morning with us,” Melvin said at the top of Today’s 8 a.m. ET hour on Thursday. “So glad [we have] Hallie Jackson helping us out this week while Savannah’s on assignment for NBC.”
Jackson joined Melvin at the anchor desk, while Weekend Today‘s Angie Lassman took over for Al Roker‘s weather reporting duties. Melvin and Daly had not appeared on this week’s Today episodes prior to their Thursday return.
Daly, for his part, was also missing for the majority of last week, and has spent his break traveling to California to film upcoming episodes of NBC’s The Voice. Daly twinned with Season 30 coach Riley Green by sporting a fake mustache in a funny Instagram selfie on July 20, which he captioned, “@rileyduckman why do you look like a young Paul Newman & I look like a young Paul Blart? Sad.”
Daly also paid a visit to Universal Studios Hollywood. “Shooting @nbcthevoice on the @unistudios lot is really cool for a lot of reasons, but watching the entire new upcoming Fast & Furious Hollywood Drift rollercoaster be built has been awesome!” he captioned July 21 Instagram pics from the theme park. “Now you have 2 great reasons to visit us next summer! Come see a show & take a ride.”

Melvin, meanwhile, was missing for the entirety of last week, as he was enjoying a summer vacation with his family. “We’re so glad you’re back. We missed you,” Kaylee Hartung said during Today‘s third hour on Thursday, while Savannah Sellers added, “Bet your trip was great.”
Despite Sheinelle Jones stating that Melvin would be back on the show on Wednesday, July 29, Melvin was absent from the episode. On Thursday, Hartung revealed that Melvin had some “travel trouble” on his way back to New York.
Melvin confirmed he got “stuck” in his travel plans, but said it all worked out for the best. “That’s alright. I got to spend an extra night with my wife, without the kids, down in Charleston.”
Melvin’s wife, Lindsay Czarniak, shared photos from their beach getaway with their son, Delano, and daughter, Sybil, via Instagram on Sunday, July 26. “Family,” she captioned the slideshow, which featured several snaps of the family and their loved ones enjoying quality time together.
Melvin and Daly are two of several Today hosts who have been off this week. Dylan Dreyer is also enjoying time off with her kids, while Roker previously revealed he would be traveling for an upcoming Today assignment. Savannah Guthrie, meanwhile, is currently on a weeks-long break from Today as she films NBC’s upcoming Wordle game show.
