Ayo, LE SSERAFIM is not playing around with BOOMPALA.
The Source Music group posted on their official Instagram this week tagging Lee Chaeyeon alongside member Sakura and dropping the title “BOOMPALA.” The announcement drew close to 58,000 likes, and the K-pop community reacted fast.
Here’s why it landed that way. Sakura and Lee Chaeyeon go back further than LE SSERAFIM‘s 2022 debut. Both women were members of IZONE, the Korean-Japanese project group active from October 2018 to April 2021. IZONE was one of the biggest girl groups of that era. They were assembled through the Produce 48 competition series. They built a fanbase across Japan and South Korea. It’s still active years after the group disbanded.
IZ*ONE’s contract ended and the members went separate ways. Sakura joined HYBE and became a founding member of LE SSERAFIM at Source Music. Lee Chaeyeon pursued solo work and kept building her reputation as one of K-pop’s most technically impressive performers.
That reputation is real. Her dancing is on a different level. She built a lot of mainstream recognition through Street Woman Fighter, the dance competition series. That show gave idol dancers credibility with a broader Korean entertainment audience. It’s hard to watch those performances and not walk away impressed. Lee Chaeyeon shows out regardless of the setting.
So seeing her name attached to BOOMPALA hits differently than a standard collab announcement might. Fans of both artists are connecting the dots back to IZ*ONE, and that nostalgia is genuine. For a lot of K-pop listeners, seeing Sakura and Lee Chaeyeon working together again carries real emotional weight. Those fans watched both of them come up through the industry between 2018 and 2021.
LE SSERAFIM have not been shy about connecting with artists from outside the group’s usual orbit. Lee Chaeyeon’s track record as a performer is strong. Her name on any project immediately raises the stakes.
BOOMPALA arrives under Source Music, the HYBE subsidiary. The label has been building LE SSERAFIM into a global act. The group has pushed their sound in unexpected directions before. The title alone gives nothing away about the concept or genre, and at this point that’s half the fun.
Details are still thin. The post gave nothing beyond the title and the names. That turned out to be more than enough. The K-pop fandom has already taken it from there. Nobody in this community is going to let a Lee Chaeyeon and LE SSERAFIM crossover pass without making noise about it.
BOOMPALA is on the radar. Now it’s on LE SSERAFIM to deliver.
