New rumors about The Odyssey, Christopher Nolan’s anticipated adaptation, suggest that Elliot Page could be playing Achilles, the champion of the Trojan War. Rumors have also claimed that Lupita Nyong’o is playing Helen of Troy, which has already sparked backlash online, including criticism from tech billionaire Elon Musk.
Is Elliot Page playing Achilles in Christopher Nolan’s The Odyssey?
After the release of the trailer and the confirmation of several roles in Christopher Nolan’s The Odyssey, many fans believe that Elliot Page could portray Achilles, one of the key warriors of the Trojan War.
While Achilles is not a main character in The Odyssey like he is in The Iliad, he is still part of the story. In Homer’s Odyssey, Achilles meets Odysseus in the Underworld. Agamemnon also appears during this section of the story. However, neither character retains the same level of importance they had in The Iliad, where both played major roles.
While several cast members and characters have already been announced, some actors remain attached to undisclosed roles. This includes Elliot Page and Lupita Nyong’o. While many fans previously speculated that the Black Panther star could portray Helen of Troy, some now believe that Page may be cast as Achilles.
However, these casting rumors have also generated criticism online. Rumors surrounding Nyong’o potentially playing Helen of Troy previously drew backlash on social media, including from Elon Musk. Musk wrote on X, “Chris Nolan has lost his integrity.”
Christopher Nolan has stated that he is adapting the story for a modern audience. This suggests that the filmmaker does not intend to keep every aspect of the original story unchanged. Nolan previously said the film was “really for people who haven’t read it” and “don’t know anything about it.”
The Odyssey premieres on July 17, 2026.
