Season 5 of Prime Video’s action-crime series Reacher is bringing back a Season 4 actor, but there’s more to the story. The fourth season debuts in August, but before that, Prime Video renewed the show for one more season.
Jay Baruchel cast in Reacher Season 5 after leaving Season 4
Reacher Season 5 has added four new actors to the cast. They are Jay Baruchel, Kevin Durand, Amanda Ip, and Ciara Bravo. Baruchel is perhaps most popular for providing the voice for Hiccup Haddock in the How to Train Your Dragon franchise. He has also appeared in movies like She’s Out of My League and The Sorcerer’s Apprentice and the Netflix series Fubar. Interestingly, Baruchel was originally cast in Season 4 as Jacob Merrick, a small-town police officer whom Alan Ritchson encounters. However, he exited the project for personal reasons, and Christopher Marquette (Barry) ultimately replaced him in the role.
In Season 5, Baruchel will play Buck Bauer, the police chief of Mother’s Rest. Notably, Mother’s Rest is a fictional town that serves as the setting for the season, which is adapting Make Me, the 2015 Lee Child novel. It’s the 20th entry in the book series.
As indicated above, the original announcement for the fifth season came in May 2026. Reacher had a panel at this year’s San Diego Comic-Con, where the series unveiled the trailers for Season 4 and the spin-off series Neagley. A few days before that, Ritchson revealed on social media that production for the fifth season has begun. He declared that it was “a very special day,” before announcing that “it’s day one of shooting Reacher Season 5.” The Motor City actor continued, “That’s right. We are back, baby.”
Following the norm set by Child’s source material, Prime Video’s Reacher changes most of its cast and setting every season. Season 4 debuts on August 12, 2026. Season 5 doesn’t yet have a release date.
