Bluesy Burke, who plays Charlotte Cassadine on General Hospital, is settling into her role and is excited to share the screen with James Patrick Stuart. The latter has returned to the show as Charlotte’s father, Valentin.
Since stepping into Charlotte’s shoes in September, Burke has been candid about their scenes together, gushing over Stuart’s acting skills and the family drama that’s unfolding as Charlotte juggles her ties with both her parents.
Bluesy Burke talks about working with James Patrick Stuart again on General Hospital
Burke revealed she has shot only a handful of scenes with Stuart so far, mostly when Charlotte visits her locked-up father in a high-security prison overseas. True to form, Valentin schemed the visit through Jack Brennan in exchange for intel on Cesar Faison. Even with limited screen time, Burke said meeting Stuart was unforgettable. “The second I met him, he was just an absolute sweetheart. He’s also so giving, and he’s just very talented,” she shared. Burke gushed about Stuart’s dedication, even in rehearsals. She noticed how fully he immerses himself in his work, recalling a moment during the reunion scene when he actually shed a tear. Burke was blown away, calling him a true “professional” and saying she hopes to reach that level of talent and commitment one day. “Like, during the reunion [between the characters], I saw him shed a tear! I was like, ‘Oh, my God, wow.’ He’s just such a professional! I aspire to be like him, honestly,” Burke said.
Other than that, Burke is loving Charlotte’s feisty, sassy side. She’s been having a blast throwing jabs, especially at Chris McKenna, who plays Valentin’s rival. “I love it whenever I get to be sassy. One of the first things I ever shot [at GH] was this one moment in Bobbie’s where I had to go up to him and say something that was not very nice… But now I’ve given him sass a few times, and it’s fun!”
Valentin’s return is stirring up tension between Charlotte and her mother, Lulu, who is still finding her footing as the primary caretaker. Burke explained that the mother and daughter are still figuring out their dynamic. Lulu’s main wish is simply to have her daughter close, but Charlotte’s strong dedication to her dad makes their relationship a bit more complicated.
