Telemundo reporter Adan Manzano’s cause of death has been revealed.
The Kenner Police Department held a press conference on Tuesday, March 18, to share an update on the investigation surrounding Manzano’s unexpected passing.
The Jefferson Parish Coroner’s Office shared that preliminary findings show Manzano’s death was caused by the combined toxic effects of Alprazolam — an anti-anxiety drug often sold under the brand name Xanax — and alcohol.
“Positional asphyxia” was also named as a contributing factor. When Manzano was found dead in a hotel room on February 5 in Kenner — which is located west of New Orleans — he was face down in a pillow, the coroner said.
The Coroner’s Office has classified the manner of death as “undetermined.”
After traveling to New Orleans to cover Super Bowl LIX on behalf of Telemundo Kansas City, Manzano was found dead at the age of 27.
When confirming his death on February 6, the news outlet called Manzano “an exceptional professional and a rising star whose dedication and talent reflected excellence in his work.”

Police arrested Danette Colbert on February 6 and originally charged her with fraud and theft after she was allegedly caught using Manzano’s credit card the day after his death.
On Monday, March 17, Kenner Detectives obtained an arrest warrant for Colbert for Second Degree Murder, which has been executed. She remains in custody at the Jefferson Parish Correctional Center.
Us Weekly has reached out to Colbert’s attorney for comment.
According to police, investigators have uncovered “critical evidence” linking Colbert to the crime. Evidence located suggests Colbert and an associate commonly use substances to drug their victims. A search of Colbert’s residence, conducted just one day after Manzano’s death, resulted in the discovery of Alprazolam (Xanax).
In Tuesday’s press conference, police claimed Colbert worked with an accomplice. He was charged with simple robbery and various fraud charges.
“I’m committed to leaving no stone unturned in the pursuit of justice for Adan Manzano’s family and friends,” Kenner Police Chief Keith Conley said in a statement. “The men and women of the Kenner Police Department are working around the clock to ensure this does not happen to another family.”
Manzano worked as a sports anchor and reporter for Telemundo Kansas City since April 2021. He previously covered various sports for outlets in Kansas City, Oklahoma and Mexico, respectively.
His death comes less than one year after he lost his wife, Ashleigh Boyd, in a fatal car crash. She was 24. While Manzano did not publicly mourn the death of his wife, his Instagram bio reads, “Always in my heart @ashleighboyd37 ❤️🕊.”
The Kenner Police Department encourages anyone with information about Manzano’s death to contact the Criminal Investigations Division at (504) 712-2222 or Crime Stoppers at (504) 822-1111.
