Mary Fitzgerald is opening up about a heartbreaking time in her life.
The Selling Sunset star took to Instagram on Friday to share with her fans that she and her husband, Romain Bonnet, got pregnant while they were on vacation in Bali. However, Mary said she sadly suffered a miscarriage with complications that required surgery afterward. Choking back tears, she explained in an emotional video:
“I’m going to try to do this without crying. It’s taken me a couple weeks to be able to actually say everything going on. I suck at this. We did get pregnant. We were in Bali, we got pregnant and, unfortunately, that didn’t work out. And on top of the miscarriage, also had apparently what they call a ‘septic miscarriage,’ so I had to go in for surgery for that.”

For those who don’t know, a septic miscarriage happens when an infection develops in the uterus, per the Mayo Clinic. Symptoms can include fever, chills, and tenderness in the lower abdomen, and surgery is required to remove the cause of the infection. The 42-year-old real estate agent continued:
“I guess the only reason I’ve been very silent for a long time, but the reason why I’m speaking out now is because I do realize how common this is and how many people go through this, and it is not easy. I needed a minute because there’s so many eyes on me and everyone judges. It has been rough to say the least.”
Tearing up, Mary, who has a 26-year-old son named Austin Babbitt, expressed that she and Romain are remaining positive that they’ll expand their family one day:
“But there’s still hope. I’m going to continue to share [my journey] because we’re gonna keep trying, and I’m gonna leave it at that… We are going to have very good news very soon.”
In the caption, the Netflix reality star said she hoped that by sharing her story, it would help others going through the same experience feel less alone, writing:
“It’s not always sunshine and butterflies, and that is ok. I wanted to share this in the hopes of letting others know they are not alone. I promised I would be truthful and keep you guys updated. I have been asked some questions, and finally found it within me to address this. We won’t be giving up… and if this message speaks to you in any way or you are feeling down, helpless, alone… please know we are in this together. Hang in there…”

Mary received a ton of love in the comments section of the post, including from her husband, who wrote:
“It’s just the beginning of our journey my princess, and i promise I will always be here to support you in every step of the way.”
Her former co-star Maya Vander, who suffered a pregnancy loss in the past, also said:
“Sending love!! sorry you had to experience it”

“Most beautiful human inside and out. Love you both so much and will continue to hold you up through all your pain. Yes you will have good news very soon.”

We are sending Mary so much love. We cannot imagine how difficult this must have been for her and Romain.
