Single and Video Review: Alexis Marrero “Wake Me Up”

Alexis Marrero has herself a super hit with her latest release “Wake Me Up.” Written from her own experience, you not only believe her, but you want to hug her and tell her it’s going to be alright…..In the words of Irving Berlin, “The song has ended but the melody lingers on.” Surrendering to the moment can be heart wrenching and Alexis’ nightmare has brought forth a beautiful and haunting masterpiece.

The song has a compelling hook and the song’s lyrics tell a captivating story. The video accompanying the song is a ghostly lit perfectly compatible movie. It’s shrouded in mystery, but still manages to tell a complete story. There is a freedom within the video expressed by the hazy sunsets…or sunrises on the Ocean’s front. Both are already creating something to talk about along with the artist’s Melissa Etheridge type vocals…only better.

There is a world of love that goes unspoken. Everything that makes the heartbeat must be hushed. Only in Alexis’ case it ended as a germ of something frozen, locked like a crystal in a splinter of black ice. I’m sure many if not all of us have been through this, but the Ohio native had the courage to write about it so that others might identify. It’s not about throwing your hands up in resignation, but rather lifting the burden of the pain and hoping the nightmare goes away.

It’s seems as though Alexis Marrero has conquered her nightmare and can now begin to enjoy her dream and her life-long passion of singing and telling stories. There is no doubt with a gift like her’s, she will be rising to the top….

5/5 Stars
