Last night (June 26), Young and the band took his Neil Young Archives website to announce the cancellation of their remaining shows, writing: “The ‘Love Earth’ tour has been a great experience for us so far. GREAT AUDIENCES AND MUSIC. WE HAVE HAD A BLAST! When a couple of us got sick after Detroit’s Pine Knob, we had to stop. We are still not fully recovered, so sadly our great tour will have a big unplanned break.”
They continued in the blog post: “We will try to play some of the dates we miss as time passes when we are ready to rock again! We know many of you made travel plans and we apologise for the inconvenience. Thanks for your understanding and patience. Health is #1. We want to stay and do more shows and more albums for you… and for us.”
Refund details have yet to be announced, nor have rescheduled dates for the rest of the tour, which was meant to resume on July 8 in Toronto and conclude on September 29 at the Hollywood Bowl in Los Angeles, California.
The cancellation comes ahead of the band releasing a new archival album, ‘Early Daze’. In May, Young took to his Neil Young Archives website to announce the upcoming record, which was recorded in 1969 with Crazy Horse. The album is due to arrive tomorrow (June 28) via Reprise Records, and is now available for pre-order.
The band also last released music in 2021 with ‘Barn’, which NME gave four stars: “As Young wrote in his 2012 memoir Waging Heavy Peace: “There is a big wind blowing today and I’m part of it. I want to make a difference.” This record lives up to those words. Of all the messages we should listen to on this album, the overriding one is that Neil Young remains as vital as he always has been.”
