Finally!
Finally, after over a year of negotiations, an adaptation of one of the best horror video games ever made is finally coming to fruition. Netflix has partnered with 2K and Take-Two Interactive to produce a film based on BioShock.
BioShock was first released in 2007 by 2K, which is now owned by Take-Two Interactive. You play as Jack, a survivor of a plane crash who discovers the crumbling underwater city of Rapture. There, he finds that its residents have mutated and become addicted to ADAM, a drug that enhances your physical abilities. There are also Big Daddies—drill-handed monsters wearing diving suits—, Little Sisters—mutated little girls with massive needles—, and mysterious radio transmissions guiding you through the maze-like city.
Director Gore Verbinski was slated to direct a film adaptation of the game soon after its release. However, Verbinski’s vision was too expensive and violent for studio heads. So, it was back to the drawing board. How, and when, would BioShock be more than just a video game?
Now it’s finally a reality thanks to Netflix. No director or writer is attached to the project as of yet.
