We finally have our first look at Kevin Smith’s Clerks III. It was everything a Smith fan can hope to see. The film goes back to its basics and that of Smith’s ground breaking indie comedy, Clerks. The only big change this time around is that we are now focusing on Randal Graves as opposed to our regular Clerks hero, Dante Hicks.
The synopsis for Clerks III goes like this:
“Following a massive heart attack, Randal enlists Dante, Elias, Jay and Silent Bob to make a movie immortalizing his life at the convenience store that started it all.”
The massive heart attack mirrors Smith’s own medical problems and brush with death. Things appear to be very meta since we are essentially witnessing Smith’s Clerks being made in a strange sort of retcon approach.
The synopsis to the first Clerks went like this:
Dante (Brian O’Halloran) is called in to cover a shift at his New Jersey convenience store on his day off. His friend Randal (Jeff Anderson) helps him pass the time, neglecting his video-store customers next door to hang out in the Quick Stop. The uneventful day is disrupted by news that one of Dante’s ex-girlfriends has died. After attending her memorial service, Dante muses over staying with current girlfriend Veronica (Marilyn Ghigliotti) or reuniting with ex Caitlin (Lisa Spoonhauer).
We are hoping that Smith’s Clerks III manages to be as good if not better than the first. Randal has always been a fave and it will be great to be able to focus on him for a bit. Personally, I am really hoping that we don’t get into the cheesy areas that Jay and Silent Bob reboot touched on.
Clerks III is set up for a September 13 Fathom Events release date. Smith is also doing a roadshow tour with the film. The tickets for the first 19 tour dates goes on sale along with the premiere of today’s trailer. In addition, Smith will add more Clerks III roadshow dates at Comic Con where he will also show the first five-minutes of the film.
