History of Pet Sematary
A little backstory on the original piece of media that started it all. Stephen King based this story on actual events in his life. He had moved his family into a more rural area with a large road running in front of it, which made him concerned about his children.
One large piece of inspiration came from his daughter’s cat dying, and her emotional reaction to the incident. The line in the book, “Let God have his own cat.” is what she was repeating after the incident.

In a similar way as portrayed in the book, King’s youngest son was almost “used up,” an experience that deeply affected him. Luckily for everyone, the boy tripped and fell before reaching the road. Even the old neighbor’s warning about the road really happened to King.
To top all of this off, King did find a pet graveyard near his new home with a hand painted, misspelled Pet Sematary sign at the front of it. All of this led Stehpen King to write one of his most horrific pieces of media.
