Rober Englund may have officially announced his time as Freddy Kruger is over due to age, weight and a bad back. However, that wouldn’t stop him from possibly producing a future film and assisting in the story. While speaking with Variety about his upcoming documentary Hollywood Dreams & Nightmares: The Robert Englund Story, Englund spoke about how to bring Kruger into modern times.
In an era ruled by social media, it would be important for Freddy to utilize those channels. So, what if he did get a much larger reach by tapping into someone’s followers? It would be entirely possible for Kruger to tap into an influencer on Elm Street and then punish everyone who followed that individual.
“You’d have to deal with technology and culture,” Englund said. “For instance, if one of the girls was an influencer, it would be interesting for Freddy to somehow haunt her subconscious and manifest himself, perhaps exploit everybody that followed her.”
It could be a start. Kruger taking part in social media could be a chilling Black Mirror sort way of bringing the dream demon into the modern age. What do you think? Do you like Englund’s idea for Freddy? Let us know in the comments section.
