While speaking to Variety our new hero, Mia Goth had some awesome things to say about horror. The actress is no stranger to the genre. To name just a few she appeared in A Cure for Wellness, Suspiria, X, Pearl and now Infinity Pool. As an actress who delivers a 10-minute+ monologue in Pearl. The actress says that horror isn’t being treated fairly when it comes to the Oscars.
There have been some horror films that have won some awards over the years. The Exorcist, Silence of the Lambs, Get Out, Shape of Water and a couple of others have had big Oscar wins. For the most part, horror is largely skipped over.
“I think that it’s very political…It’s not entirely based on the quality of a project.” Goth told Variety. “There’s a lot going on there and a lot of cooks in the kitchen when it comes to nominations. Maybe I shouldn’t say that, but I think that’s true. I think a lot of people know that. A change is necessary…A shift should take place if they wanted to engage with the wider public. I think it would be of benefit, really, [for horror films to be nominated for Oscars].”
Amen, Mia! Amen! Goth gives a hell of a performance in Pearl. But, her role in Infinity Pool is fixing to blow everyone’s minds when it comes to her devil-like role.
We 100 percent agree with Goth and horror needing a big change in the world of Oscars. It would be great to give horror its own category. What do you think about horror and Oscars? Do you think that things need to change? Let us know in the comments.
