Found Footage Hollywood Nightmare ‘I Blame Society’ Gets Killer New

This is one gorgeous piece of art.

I Blame Society

Gillian Wallace Horvat’s feature film debut I Blame Society is a biting critique of what it means to be a woman in Hollywood. Framed as found footage, Horvat’s anti-hero is trying to make a movie that will get her fame and success. The idea? Make a documentary about how she would be the perfect murderer. It’s a perfect marriage of found footage tropes and pitch-black comedy. Because of that incredible balance, Horvat has been nominated in the ‘Someone to Watch’ category as part of 2022 Film Independent Spirit Awards.

Ahead of its premiere on Shudder, Dread Central got an exclusive look at I Blame Society’s beautiful new poster:

Here’s what Horvat had to say about the film and its gorgeous poster:

We’re so thrilled to be premiering on Shudder, an incredible resource for genre lovers whose curators are always shining a light on deep cuts of the canon, as well as exposing off the beaten path work like I Blame Society to an audience hungry for new voices.

To celebrate we commissioned a new poster and VOD art from the super cool, super talented Version Industries. Their concept of representing our protagonist smiling enigmatically as she’s being covered up by scraps of film posters with a big knife just poking out into the image brilliantly communicates the look and tone of I Blame Society and how it’s main character struggles with being seen and what she’s willing to do to get attention for her work.

Check out the full synopsis for I Blame Society:

Gillian (Gillian Wallace Horvat) is one of those many struggling filmmakers in L.A. who just can’t seem to get the money for their first feature. Feeling like her friends and her partner (Keith Poulson) are losing faith in her abilities, she decides to resurrect her abandoned documentary based on a pseudo-compliment she once received that she would make a good murderer. But while she documents what makes “the perfect murder” a hitherto unseen dark side of Gillian emerges and grows. Furthermore the problem with being a successful serial killer, she discovers, is keeping the whole thing stealth, denying her the recognition that she craves… and that unhinges her even more. After accidentally-ish killing her best friend (Chase Williamson), Gillian goes on a killing spree culminating with a final bloody act that nobody would dare deny her credit for.

I Blame Society hits Shudder on February 8. The winners of the 2022 Film Independent Spirit Awards will be announced on February 10.
