Tatiana Maslany Doesn’t Know If ‘She-Hulk’ Will Get Renewed Yet

If you’re wondering where She-Hulk could go next after the season 1 finale, so is Jen Walters. But the superhuman attorney already has a few ideas in mind, which she teased in the show’s very meta last episode. “I do have some thoughts about the direction of season 2,” Jen (Tatiana Maslany) tells K.E.V.I.N., the AI bot who programs all the storylines in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (and a silly stand-in for Marvel Studios’ actual, human president, Kevin Feige). But before Jen can indulge us in her plans, K.E.V.I.N. cuts her off and sends her back into her show to tie up loose ends.

The She-Hulk series isn’t perfect, but it presents something different in the ever-growing MCU. For starters, it’s more legal comedy than superhero action show; it frequently breaks the fourth wall with Jen’s witty asides; and most notably, it touches on women’s sexuality, not shying away from Jen having, joking about, and desiring sex—a rarity for Marvel’s onscreen superheroes. And while Jen deals with some bad guys, she’s just as often facing the kind of misogyny women experience in everyday life, from cat-calling and mansplaining in the office to online bullying. Any woman would be infuriated over these things but would probably suppress the anger to survive, or to avoid being called “emotional” and not taken seriously. As she navigates these things as She-Hulk, someone who can transform into a big green smashing machine at the onset of rage, Jen shines light on a hard truth—that women are angry all the time; we’re just forced to learn to live with it.

Whether or not She-Hulk will return for a second season, Maslany seems interested in continuing playing the title character. When asked about the possibility of her leading the Avengers, the actress told us, “It would be thrilling.”

Has She-Hulk been renewed for season 2?

Not officially, but there were plenty of joking references to it in the season 1 finale, which aired Oct. 13.

In a recent interview with Extra, Maslany addressed whether she knew about plans for a renewal: “I mean, I don’t think so, yet. K.E.V.I.N. in the scene seems to be very dismissive of this idea, so, if we’re basing this off of the real Kevin [Feige], it doesn’t seem likely. But he was also, I think, just trying to get rid of Jen, because she was asking too many questions.”

She later added, “If I could be coy, and have some little secret, I would do that. But, I really don’t. I don’t know anything.”

What would season 2 be about?

It’s likely the legal comedy will continue to revolve around our heroine “learning to be both Jen and She-Hulk,” as she explains to K.E.V.I.N. in the finale. As Jen continues to navigate her identities as superhero, attorney, and Millennial Woman Figuring It All Out, other storylines will also come into play.

For example, there’s her cousin Bruce, who revealed in the finale that he is a father. He reunited with his family after a stint on the planet of Sakaar with a son, named Skaar. That’s as far as the reveal goes, but a potential second season could unveil the backstory behind Bruce’s mini me.

There’s also the finale end credits scene to consider. Emil Blonsky is back in jail for breaking parole, but Wong appears to break him out again and presumably smuggle him into Kamar-Taj. Will Jen be on the hunt for them again next season?

Most importantly, we’re hoping season 2 shows us more of Jen’s relationship with Matt Murdock/Daredevil, the MCU’s hottest new couple.

Who would be in the cast?

Maslany’s starring role as Jennifer Walters/She-Hulk is of course integral to the series, but the actress has not yet confirmed her return.

If we do get more She-Hulk, we could see more of Mark Ruffalo as Bruce/The Hulk, Benedict Wong as Wong, Jameela Jamil as Titania, Tim Roth as Emil Blonsky/Abomination, and of course Charlie Cox as Matt Murdock/Daredevil. In non-superhuman characters, we’d likely see more of Ginger Gonzaga as Jen’s BFF Nikki, Renée Elise Goldberry as Mallory Book, and Josh Segarra as Pug. So far, it’s unclear if John Bass will return as Hulk-obsessed incel and Intellencia creator Todd.
