Meghan Markle and Prince Harry Flew Commercial to the U

This weekend, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle returned to the United Kingdom for the first time since the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee. Their visit is scheduled to check in with various charities they have a vested interest in and make certain appearances in support of them.

The pair decided to make their trip by flying commercial from California to the U.K., which is a rare choice for celebrities of Meghan and Harry’s status. There has, however, been a lot of scrutiny over how celebs choose to travel since so many of them charter private jets even for short distances. From a cost and climate perspective, commercial is definitely the better choice. Though they have flown private in the past, they both champion environmental causes and Harry initiated a travel sustainability project called Travalyst. When he announced the initiative in 2019, he made a point of saying he travels commercially a lot.

“I came here by commercial,” he claimed. “I spend 99% of my life traveling the world by commercial. Occasionally there needs to be an opportunity based on a unique circumstance to ensure my family are safe and it’s genuinely as simple as that. But as I said in my speech, for me it’s about balance.”

The royal couple did not bring their two children, Archie and Lilibet, on the journey it seems. There is apparently some drama around the orgs that the Duke and Duchess of Sussex are planning to visit, as some of them were supported by the couple when they were still working royals. Queen Elizabeth had refused the proposition that they continue in their positions to any degree.

“The chutzpah of those two is unreal,” a former Buckingham Palace staffer told The Daily Beast. “Their proposal for being hybrid working royals was comprehensively rejected [at the Sandringham Summit], but it looks like they are just going ahead and doing it anyway.”

They will indeed be going ahead and supporting a number of charity organizations during their trip.
