Cyrus dipped into the Versace and Bob Mackie archives for her New Year’s Eve special with Dolly Parton.
Miley Cyrus said goodbye to 2022 in style — vintage Versace and Bob Mackie style, that is. The singer hosted her second annual NBC live special, Miley’s New Years Eve Party, and donned a medley of archival high-fashion looks for the occasion.
Co-hosted by country music icon — and Miley Cyrus’s own godmother — Dolly Parton, the New Year’s Eve bash included performances by Sia, Paris Hilton, and the rock band Liily (whose drummer is Cyrus’s boyfriend Maxx Morando), not to mention several musical numbers by Miley and Dolly themselves.
But for the party in the U.S.A. (sorry), it’s Cyrus’s glamorous looks that we can’t stop and we won’t stop (sorry again) thinking about. The rockstar and Hollywood progeny, who has worn everything from flesh-toned latex briefs and studded moto jackets to metallic nipple-shielding suspenders, showed off a decidedly more elevated side than we’re accustomed to for the December 31 event.
While Cyrus opted for mostly vintage ensembles for the NYE show, she kicked things off with Parton in matching custom Gucci.
The “Wrecking Ball” singer chose a pastel halter dress from Versace’s Spring 2005 collection to perform Paris Hilton’s now-iconic 2006 single “Stars Are Blind” with Sia and Paris herself. The slinky gown featuring a plunging neckline and ruched detailing was pitch-perfect for a throwback performance with the early aughts reality TV star.
Perhaps the biggest standout look from her many wardrobe changes was this one-shoulder dress from Bob Mackie, the designer behind so many unforgettable Cher looks. Pulled from a 2002 collection, the multi-coloured iridescent beaded mini was the ideal cocktail dress for ushering in a new year.
Cyrus wore two more archival Versace outfits, including the above goddess gown. The mint and orange sorbet dress from Versace’s Spring 2006 collection included a super-high slit and cape detail that extended down the single-shoulder strap.
For a more playful look, the former Hannah Montana star chose a two-piece Versace set with a ruffled patchwork skirt and matching exaggerated sleeves.
Cyrus kept the same groovy beauty vibe for all the outfits, complete with a centre part, almost crimped-looking blonde waves, and shimmering eyeshadow. And while some of the looks felt like style leaps for the 30-year-old, it really shouldn’t come as much of a surprise from the singer who consistently reinvents her sound and style. She’s just being Miley, after all.
