If the 2023 Met Gala brought you fashion inspiration, then you’ll be thrilled to know the 2023 Cannes Film Festival has arrived with more showstopping red carpet looks. The annual celebration of fashion and film attracts a slew of A-list celebrities dressed in glamorous attire, and this year has gotten off to a breathtaking start.
Dua Lipa wowed at the event, stepping out with director Romain Gavras on the red carpet for the first time. Attending the “Omar la Fraise (The King of Algiers)” screening, she wore a Celine gown with four cutouts along the bodice and a slit that climbed up to her hips. She complemented the look with dangling diamond ear cuffs and a matching bracelet, while her updo kept the spotlight on her dress’s dramatic neckline. Notably though, she debuted a new set of bangs, long enough to cover half her face. Styled by Lorenzo Posocco, Dua Lipa’s Cannes look was one of her boldest yet.
At the “Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny” screening, Karlie Kloss cradled her baby bump in an olive Christian Dior gown fit for a Grecian queen following her pregnancy reveal at the Met Gala earlier this month. Her one-shoulder number was replete with a lightweight floor-skimming train, and she showed off matching textural pumps as she walked. The 30-year-old played up the pleating and braided waistband on her skirt with a netted headpiece, finishing the look with diamond drop earrings, a tennis bracelet, and her engagement ring and wedding band stack.
Blackpink’s Rosé also set the bar as she attended the “Monster” screening on May 17 in a black satin asymmetrical gown from Saint Laurent that featured ruffled tiers across the bodice — one of which wrapped around her neck like a scarf. The floor-length column gown was complemented by a black manicure and finished with elegant sapphires in her ears and on a statement ring.
The day before that, Elle Fanning wore an intricate custom-made Alexander McQueen by Sarah Burton ball gown at the festival’s opening ceremony and the “Jeanne du Barry” screening. The look, crafted from pink tulle and Paris net, had silver bugle bead and crystal embroidery, and was finished with Cartier diamonds, including a triple-strand choker left on full display. Hairstylist Jenda Alcorn swept up her hair into a tight double bun, and makeup artist Erin Ayanian Monroe provided a soft, peachy glow.
Other notable attendees at the film festival and nearby parties include Katie Holmes, Alessandra Ambrosio, Storm Reid, Aja Naomi King, Gemma Chan, Adriana Lima, and Naomi Campbell, all of whom hit the red carpet dressed to the nines. Last year, we saw Anne Hathaway shine in a custom Armani Privé white sequin gown and Bella Hadid in a couple of sultry, statement-making looks, so we have high hopes for this year’s array.
Ahead, see all the looks we’ve loved so far, and keep checking back for more eye-catching ensembles until the Cannes Film Festival closes on May 27. We promise the stars will bring a whole new meaning to “dress to impress.”
