Blackpink are back in your area. The K-pop group returned with a midnight drop of their new album, Born Pink, their second official full-length release and the follow up to 2021’s The Album. While the superstar quartet dropped their spicy lead single “Pink Venom” ahead of today’s drop, seven more tracks arrived in the new LP, including their next buzzy single, “Shut Down.” Loaded with confident lyrics and high energy, the song lives up to its title: throughout the track, the girls take turns telling their haters and doubters to take a seat.
“Praying for my downfall, many have tried, baby,” they sing in one line. “When we pull up you know it’s a shutdown,” they boast in another.
You can probably get away with saying that if you’re Jennie, Lisa, Rosé, and Jisoo, Blackpink’s four members. Since forming in 2016, the girls have broken records and achieved milestones left and right, including becoming the first K-pop girl group to perform at the VMAs and dropping the most-watched music video of the year (so far).
Behind all those achievements is a lot of hard work, though. “These days, we have no boundaries when it comes to work,” Jennie told ELLE last year. “Even on our days off, we’re basically at the studio recording.” Rosé jokingly added, “Life is work, and work is life!” Listening to “Shut Down” and Born Pink, it’s clear that all their efforts have paid off.
For the cherry on top, the girls also released a new music video for “Shut Down,” complete with a bold wardrobe, color scheme, and attitude. A perfect match for the song.
