Betty’s Revenge, the Betty Boop slasher we told you about last month, is now available to rent ($5.99) or purchase ($9.99) on Prime Video via ITN Distribution.
Hannah Fierman (V/H/S) stars as the batty Betty Boop alongside Emma Claire Dykes, Samuel J. Bennett, and Faith McKinstry.
The indie film follows three college seniors who venture to the abandoned Dizzy Dishes cabaret club while researching its fiery past. They encounter the former owner, Betty — who claims to be half woman, half “something else.”
Once the friends get their hands on Betty’s journal of secrets, it’s a race against time as she begins hunting them with the goal of leaving behind a story of trauma that can become the next great bedtime story.
Brett Bentman writes and directs, inspired by Betty Boop’s first appearance in the 1930 animated short Dizzy Dishes — which entered the public domain this year.
“We wanted to be true and accurate to the subject that was available — not just the one everyone associates with the classic cartoon, as we knew that was off limits,” Bentman told us. “So we made Betty a tragic figure that has real motivation, not just your typical angry cartoon character.”
Bentman produces with Tiffany McDonald for B22 Films. ITN’s Stuart Alson and Nicole Holland serve as executive producers.
Bentman’s Minnie Mouse slasher Minnie’s Midnight Massacre is also available on Prime Video today.
